Three Reasons for Living in a Community While Society Collapses
It’s time to seek your tribe and grow something new together
Catharsis — Communitas —Ecstasis
These are three elements to pass through for living a fulfilled life. The first time I heard these words in this setup was in a Jamie Wheal Podcast.
They’re different experiences for each and every one of us.
After years of medicine journeys, working on myself, introspective meditations, living in front of a huge magnetic rock, and more recently circle facilitation, I made the conscious step to commune with others.
Community comes from to commune with others. That’s something else than living together with people. Those can be two completely different worlds.
In a big city, you also live together with people.
In Los Angeles, you don’t necessarily commune with others, although you can. In fact, neighbors may die one apartment below you and you don’t even notice, as happened to me in Amsterdam.
To commune means;
To converse or talk together, usually with profound intensity, intimacy, etc.; interchange thoughts or feelings — dictionary.com
There are thousands of different structured communities all over the planet. Some examples are intentional communities, eco-villages, Ashrams, Tantric communities, and retreat centers with a core of permanent residents. But there are plenty more.
My experience with communities is that you can distill three main characteristics to really call a group of people living together a community
They are based around certain clear communicated core values
There needs to be a common shared purpose that people can work towards
People quite literally live together, mostly on a piece of land
These are 3 reasons why it might be a wise and healthy step for you to choose living to commune with others.
The Bigger picture
Before I dive into the three reasons, lets look at the bigger picture.
On the surface, it looks like we’re experiencing a global dystopian power seizure where our freedoms are slowly been taken away by big tech feudalism, slowly imposing a digital dictatorship.
In the background though, our two-thousand-year-old patriarchal system is coming to an end. We are moving astrologically in the era of Aquarius.
A huge systemic change and human awakening are the results.
The total control narrative and the pending digital dictatorship of 2021 and beyond obscures the fact that our old story of culture is no longer true in the hearts of a fast-growing amount of people worldwide.
The narrative of competition with everybody else for never enough money and the impossible infinite growth on a planet with finite resources.
This narcissistic dance is about to end. A global civilization collapse is the next phase.
Unless more and more people feel a more beautiful world our hearts know is possible, is actually possible, as thought leader Charles Eisenstein puts it.
As a response to the oppressive totalitarian regime that is taking over our lives, many feel the need to co-create a more beautiful world together, right here and now.
Even if it were a parallel reality for now.
The form that most fits this desire is small groups of people living together serving higher values and having a shared purpose to co-create something new.
Voila; The 21st-century community.
It’s infinitely better than living in fear in a low-frequency segregated society based on a relentlessly propagated lie that is slowly reshaping the lives of good people into brainwashed brave new normal serves.
The first reason — It’s time to Exit the system
All of the above makes it pretty clear that it’s time to exit a system that has turned itself against humanity. Thus against you.
Ask yourself this when you’re afraid to make the jump; What do I have to lose?
Well, basically everything. Your inalienable rights for starters. Or what about your freedom of movement, free speech, the right to gather? Basically, to join social life without a passport.
What when the world around you is founded on such different values that you start to feel like an E.T in an alienated world full of walking mouth caps?
A logical thing to do at this threshold of transformation is to seek like-minded, soul, and spirit alike brothers and sisters.
By moving to a community.
In wartime, we gather together and re-create the world through sensemaking
This happens each and every war. People find each other and support each other unconditionally while talking about a possible new future.
This has to do with a sense of primal safety.
One aspect of a totalitarian regime is that hypnotized people believe the lie that now has become the basis of the restructuring of society so much, that they will propagate this whenever they can.
For their own sense of safety in an unsafe world.
In George Orwell’s 1984, the society following the great leader has literally introduced a name for this; Parroting.
In a society that based on a lie, slowly everything becomes fiction
This sparks the urgency for people that have the courage to keep their own critical thinking to re-create their truths and sense of the world. A truth that resides in the heart, that arises from morality.
This has made Sensemaking and truth-finding a new trend.
One of the main reasons people that refuse to parrot the lie gather in communities, is to communicate about their truth, about what’s going on.
To interchange thoughts and feelings.
A huge reason to choose a community over a society based on a lie is the ability to collectively make sense of the world. From good sense-making comes good decisions making and those choices will be the threads for new earth when the time is there.
Become part of a new cultural renaissance.
The other aspect of making people live together in a community is a shared purpose.
This can be anything from growing potatoes to growing ideas.
In a wider context, it can be about coming together building a new vision of what it means to be human, and actually living it, embodying it.
This is the essence of a new social and cultural renaissance.
When you gather in a community, you’ll actually have the possibility to be part of a new cultural renaissance. By co-creating it.
You can actually practice what you preach. Here are some examples
Practice sharing from a sense of togetherness. No longer separation and competition over scarce ‘stuff’. Strengthen your generosity muscle when you know and realize that you are the source of everything.
Take a different view on possession. Is your body really yours? that amazing sunset? The gifts and talents do you have?
Embrace your gift. Everybody has his or her unique talent, role, and part of the collective. Make it seen, share yourself. It’s so welcome. You are welcome.
Catharsis & Embodiment. You’ll be able to work on your shadow in a circle, to activate your pineal gland through Wim Hof breathing for example. To re-connect to nature and receive her infinite wisdom and energy going through you with plant medicine.
See yourself as a free energy device, even before these real free energy devices will enter our world. Feel grateful for this never-ending Kundalini life force that is there for you for free. Activate it through Yoga.
Start a barter system using elements from a gift economy where the basic principle is abundance, not lack. This might be executed by technology using cryptographic principles and decentralized principles. Every community needs a nerd these days.
Ectasis. You’ll be able to dance for no other reason than celebrating life, the moment, the presence of each other.
Make things that you can repair. Surround yourself with circular stuff instead of cheap stuff that made your former life cheap.
Be regenerative. The most important principle in these times of ecological collapse is giving back to the planet. To develop a regenerative mindset, technologies, and action.
And all other forms of communing based on certain core values and new visions on how to live together.
We need creators, not parrots
In a community, you’ll be able to operate outside of the system that is coming down. Be led by love, not fear. Embracing your shadows to bring more light. Planting the seeds and imagining the future new earth now, since it's in your heart. In all of our hearts.
You can restore a core feeling of belonging that is lost in our society and actually experience it with like-minded peers.
We’re slowly moving out of the story of separation. Of 2000 years of willpower over emergence. Hierarchical power structures over flat self-organizing principles. Masculine dominated the competition for never enough versus feminine nurturing qualities of caring for the planet.
It is great to be alive in these challenging times.
These are the times to stop looking at what’s wrong around you but to start co-creating what is true and real for you from a higher frequency
A community can be a great place to do this. Communities will play a key role in a new cultural renaissance that is bottom-up, from the people for the people.
When there is one basic core principle or value that binds us all in these times its this one;
Giving back.
Lucien Lecarme
Very well written. This can shift the path of many people.
Hola Lucien, I appreciate your passion and concerns for humanity. I am someone who is doing almost everything that you wrote about: I founded a mostly latino, artist eco-community in 2012 in Vilcabamba Ecuador (chambalabamba.org), I have been on my own spiritual path that came from experimenting with LSD in the sixties in SF and now am living my dream, living from love, always growing and learning, my partner is a certified kundalini yoga teacher. We do regenerative agriculture, have both compost and ecological water toilets, everything is organic, we have a space for children where we help guide them to become autodidactics, etc, etc.
At the same time, I have been and continue to be a radical anarchist activist. Here is a conversation recorded Nov. 22, 2021: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljo0AQnqNsc&t=104s.
In my opinion, communities like ours is not the solution for humanity. The problem is in the cities, and that is what must be addressed. A very small percentage could live in eco communities and most eco communities fail, because they are expensive to build and most people are so traumatized by our cultures that conflicts are a big problem. I believe everyone needs to learn non-violent communication (cnvc.org), but that is not going to happen very fast.
I hope that you are open to change your mind and refine your comprehension, as one always should be. I am speaking from experience, and always open to a better comprehension, so if you can point out how I may have come to the wrong conclusions, I will welcome that.
